Unfortunately, for tens of thousands of veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, that's a promise that only exists on paper.

Former US Army Sergeant Logan Laituri served a tour in Iraq before returning home and filing to be discharged as a conscientious objector. He describes how the rules of engagement he operated under lead to the approved killings of innocent civilians and the destruction of ancient landmarks.

Geoff Millard is a former member of New York Army National Guard. After 9/11 he helped protect Ground Zero in New York and was later shipped off for a tour in Iraq. Since returning to the US, Geoff has been one of the most active members of Iraq Veterans Against the War. Geoff is also a journalist who contributes regularly to the web-site Truthout.org.

He joined the Iowa Army National Guard the day the war started, which was two days after his seventeenth birthday. He was a medic at Abu Ghraib and also did convoys and patrols. After his experiences in Iraq Ihe he became convinced that the war was illegal and immoral.
